MULTAN - The Makhdoom Rasheed land controversy further aggravated on Friday as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi alleged that the land was illegally grabbed by armed outlaws while on the other hand PML-N MPA Abdul Waheed Arrain claimed that the Auqaf Department leased out the land to a citizen legally.

Addressing a joint news conference along with Tariq Naeem Ullah, Zahid Bahar Hashmi and Nazeer Hashmi, the PTI president said that 95 acre land was the property of his family that was devoted by his forefathers for the construction of Darbar Makhdoom Rasheed and adjacent masjid with a condition that the land would return to the family after the completion of construction.

He claimed that Mian Shahbaz Sharif victimized his family because of him. "The land is occupied by outlaws armed with Kalashnikovs who are doing aerial firing. If any mishap takes place, Punjab Government will be responsible for it," he warned. He said that over 20 persons were occupants of the said land and use of force to evict them could turn into any mishap. He told the journalists that he allocated the same land for establishment of a medical city and a directive was also issued by the provincial govt on July 5, 2009. He added that he got constructed two degree colleges and many other educational institutions on 12 acres in Makhdoom Rasheed.

Meanwhile, a PML-N MPA from PP-196 Abdul Waheed Arrain alleged Hashmis of illegally occupying 94 acres of Auqaf land. Addressing a news conference here at Multan Press Club along with the lessee of the land Abdul Sattar on Friday, the MPA alleged that Javed Hashmi occupied the land after becoming MNA in 1985 otherwise this land was under the occupation of the Auqaf Department before this period. He added that the Hashmis sold out 20 acres illegally and earned over Rs. 200 million. "Similarly, they are defaulter of lease payment worth over Rs. 30 million as they haven't paid anything to the Auqaf Department for the last 35 years," he maintained. He said that the court dismissed a writ filed by Hashmis and leased the land out to one Abdul Sattar after pursuing all legal procedures. He said that Imran Khan to take notice of illegal occupations of his party's president.

Accused brothers arrested: The police arrested two proclaimed offender brothers from the suburban Sahiba Balochan area the other day.

According to the police sources, two brothers - Ali Khan and Sarafraz, sons of Riaz, residents of Sial Dhoulka village had shot dead their rival Aslam, son of Muhammad Faiz, a resident of Sahiba Balochan village over bad blood on September 15, 2011. The accused fled away and went underground to evade arrest. The case was registered on the report of the victim's brother.  The police conducted a raid under the supervision of Sub Inspector Muhammad Mukhtar and arrested both the accused. Further investigation is underway.

Body recovered, bike stolen: Unknown thieves took away a bike of a police cop in the limits of City A-Division Police here the other day. According to detail, Cop Rab Nawaz posted in Special Branch parked his bike at Landa Bazaar here. On returned, he found his bike missing.

Meanwhile, Bhikhi Police recovered an unidentified body from a field. The police sent the body to city mortuary house for autopsy.

Further investigation is underway.
