ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan on Friday said the issues faced by NHA contractors demand immediate attention so that the construction activity does not hamper.Federal Minister said this while presiding over a high-level meeting to address the issues being faced by the contractors. The meeting was attended by Secretary Communications Anwar Ahmed Khan, Chairman NHA Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi, NHA Members and Representatives of Contractors Association of Pakistan (CAP).He said that NHA needs to prioritise the projects, which are near completion.. NHA is presently focusing on the ongoing projects and no new project has been started in last financial year. Minister said that construction sector is the backbone of our economy and is playing an important role. “We need to build capacity of our local industry so that they can come at par with the international construction companies,” he said. He directed Chairman NHA to look into their problems and try to solve it immediately. Secretary Communications and Chairman NHA gave various suggestions to overcome the delays in payments to the contractors, land acquisition, and other issue pertaining to the contractors. The Members of Contractor Association of Pakistan told that if their problems are resolved, not only the projects will be completed in time but it will also enable NHA to earn more revenue.  They appreciated the assistance and keen interest of Dr Arbab Alamgir in resolving their problems and assured all their cooperation in completion of their projects.
