KHANEWAL - In the wake of the suo moto notice taken by the Supreme Court regarding Mariyum Bibi's alleged stoning to death in Khanewal district and the Punjab chief minister's visit to the area, the Punjab police have taken a strict action against the top cops of the region.

Because of the police failure in the murder took place in village 15/8R in Abdul Hakim, Multan Regional Police Officer Mubarik Ali Athar has been transferred and posted as DIG Training, Khanewal DPO Dr Muhammad Waqar Abbasi and SP (Investigation) Naeemul Hassan Baber has been relegated to the officers on special duty in Lahore.

Rai Ejaz has been posted as new district police officer of Khanewal. Likewise, DSP Saddar Circle Javid Khan, Katch Khu police SHO Muhammad Shamshad and Investigation officer SI Muhammad Ashraf of Chowk Aaqil have been suspended.

She was allegedly killed by landlords of the village 15/8R last week. Investigation into the case is yet underway, and the district police have claimed that her husband Sarfraz, in the police custody has confessed that he had killed Mariyum.

However, the local residents have demanded free, fair and transparent inquiry of the incident.

Sambrial griped by crime wave: The City is in the grip of a crime wave, as the people are feeling insecure due to the rising incidents of dacoity and theft. The residents of the city alleged that the city police miserably failed to protect the lives and property of people, besides, failing tracing out the culprits involved in the heinous crimes.

They said that the Sambrial Police remained busy in performing special political duties, leaving the innocent people at the mercy of the criminals.

The outlaws remained active in the city and they took away a car, motorcycle, gold ornaments and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in different strike in sambrial tehsil.
