Expressing strong reaction against the reported Indian move to get vacated Delhi-based office of the United Nations Military Observers Group (UNMOGIP), Jammu & Kashmir Liberation League President Justice (r) Abdul Majeed Mallick said that the presence of the UN observers at both sides of the LoC in the disputed Jammu & Kashmir State with their present offices in New Delhi and Islamabad was most warranted factor till the final settlement to Kashmir issue.

Talking to newsmen here, Justice Mallick, also retired chief justice of AJK High Court, said that despite complaisance of Pakistan to revisit the UN Security Council on Kashmir, the fact remained that Jammu & Kashmir was a burning issue on the UN agenda.

India, he recalled, invoked the UN Security council for immediate ceasefire and thereby it agreed to a plebiscite under the auspices of the Security Council.

The Kashmiri leader underlined that the appointment of the UN Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan was promptly made on the initiative of India and complete agreement of then members of the Security Council.

He observed that recent Indian initiative to shift Delhi-based UNMOGIP Headquarter was a calculated step to demise the importance of Kashmir conflict.

“In fact it was step of complete negation of India’s complaint made in 1948 vis-à-vis Kashmir in the UN Security Council,” he observed, adding that in addition to fresh initiative by Pakistan in the Security Council, Pakistan could invoke international court of justice to step into enforce holding of plebiscite in the internationally-acknowledged disputed Himalayan Jammu & Kashmir state.

“In my view, alternatively, the AJK government is equally competent and eligible to invoke international court of justice to seek complete demilitarization in the Jammu & Kashmir state and therefore holding of the plebiscite”, he opined.
