Islamabad - A one-year comprehensive action plan would be formulated to turn the federal capital into the most beautiful and model city of the country.

This plan would cover the enhancement in the green character, improvement of road infrastructure and up-gradation of civic amenities in Islamabad. These views were expressed by Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CAAD), Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry while chairing a meeting at Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters yesterday. During the meeting, the minister was briefed in detail about the functions and development projects of the CDA.

On the occasion, Member Administration, Amer Ali Ahmed while briefing the state minister apprised him that in order to promote the development activities, the CDA has initiated many significant and mega projects in the city while many other projects aimed to improve the basic facilities in the city have also been envisaged which would be launched in near future. Amer informed the minister that sitting CDA management has not only initiated new projects in the city but also started development work in the sectors, besides starting work on the projects which remained stalled for many years. He apprised that CDA has marked the current fiscal year ‘a year of development activities.’ He informed the state minister that in addition to the completion of Kashmir Highway project, construction of citizen facilitation centres, underpasses on major and busy avenues and construction of parking plazas in the city, momentum of the development activities at Park Enclave Housing Project, sector I-11 and on other projects has been increased remarkably.

He further informed the minister that in order to improve medical facilities, CDA Hospital is being upgraded in addition to the construction of additional block while sufficient funds have also been allocated for the improvement and up-gradation of the sewerage system of the city. He further briefed that in order to improve the travelling facilities and an easy access to the metro bus stations, the CDA has planned to launch feeder buses in the city whereas up-gradation and maintenance work on the water filtration plants is also in final stages. He further informed that in order to ensure transparency in the balloting procedures and other land matters, modern techniques are being adopted and in this connection NADRA has prepared an error-free software which will facilitate the transparent balloting in future.

The state minister said that it is highly encouraging that PM Nawaz Sharif is taking keen interest in the development of Islamabad and allocation of special funds for improvement of road infrastructure and up-gradation of civic amenities in the city shows his commitment towards development of the federal capital. He further said that in order to make capital a model city in line with the vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan, a year-long development action plan would be devised which will yield better results in future.

It is to mention here that the prime minister had approved the transfer of administrative control of the CDA from Cabinet Division to CADD on November 25. A few days before, the PM had appointed Dr Tariq Fazal State Minister for CADD — a decision that was taken by the political circles as a move to influence the first-ever local governments’ elections scheduled for Monday.
