Columnist Peter Beaumont has quoted UNICEF sources as saying that the children of Rafah in Palestine are suffering from speech disorders, regression and a general condition of irritability because of the constant, all pervasive fear of Israeli violence in the Palestinian area. The children may have withdrawn from normal life because of a constant sense of fear and helplessness. The BBC reported the same sort of symptoms in our children of North and South Waziristan last year. The killing of innocent men, women and children while they are holed up in their homes is the commonality between our two countries. That is why both Pakistan and Palestine have a problem of hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people, which are called refugees all over the world. -Z.A. KAZMI, Karachi, October 4.
