A large number of people from tribal areas have been displaced due to war on terror. The terrible part of this operation is that perfectly innocent and peaceful people, who lived in calm on their lands, have been rendered homeless and are going from pillar to post in our cities as refugees looking for shelter. In the few squalid camps that government has put up for them, they have borne extreme heat in tents with no access to proper food, drinking water medicines and sanitary necessities. Now the winter is upon them and in the tattered tents they have on their heads, it is going to be long and harsh. The government should take immediate and concrete measures to resettle these people or the corporate sector should, perhaps, take up this issue as their corporate social responsibility. These people deserve mercy. -NAILA SIDDIQUI, Karachi, via e-mail, October 14.
