LAHORE - The Lahore High Court was moved against the skyrocketing prices of helmets after the strict implementation of court orders in this regard.

The LHC, keeping the rising number of accidents into consideration and continuous law violations, had directed the traffic police to make the citizens strictly follow traffic rules and regulations.

Making the Punjab government and others as parties, Azhar Siddiq Advocate filed the petition in the LHC pleading that after rising traffic fines, the rates of helmets have been skyrocketed in the city.

He stated in the petition that the shopkeepers had approximately doubled the helmet prices by cashing in on the strict implementation of the court orders especially on The Mall.

He requested to the court that the respondents – Punjab government, Traffic Police and others, may kindly be directed to distribute helmets to the motorists free of cost.

He further requested to the court to order for decrease in the prices being sold in the market.

After the order of Justice Akbar Ali Qureshi, the awareness campaign had been initiated.

After the completion of the campaign, strict actions are be taken. Rs1000 as a fine is be imposed on everyone who rides bike without helmet. Interestingly, the people generally have appreciated the step and demanded the authorities act upon it in letter and spirit.
