ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Capital Development Authority has once again decided to install chair lift from Margalla Hills to down park area to provide another entertainment facility to the residents who have long been demanding of the Authority to execute the project. The project was planned by the CDA in 2004, but it was shelved following the objection by the environmentalists owing to the hazards it may create in the national park area reserved as green under Master Plan. The residents have long been demanding of the CDA to execute the project, as it would provide them a joyous ride on Margalla Hills, particularly during the winter season. The Interior Ministry had also sanctioned the funds amounting to Rs 300 million for the project, but it could not take shape. It has been planned that 2.5 kilometer cable way would have 40 to 50 cable cars, and the project is likely to be completed within one year. The authority also conducted a survey across the twin cities, and majority of the people interviewed favored the project. It would be icing on cake if the CDA provides the facility of chair lift on the hills, giving a charming look during the rainy days, an official said. The official said the Authority has the cognizance of the objections from the environmentalists, but added that the civic body would ensure preservation of natural beauty. He said, Pakistan Environment Protection Agency had also opposed the plan terming it an environment hazard because a number of trees would have to be axed.
