Lahore : The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday urged the district administration to stop creating harassment and panic among businessmen through registration of FIRs on the pretext of anti-dengue drive. In a statement issued here, LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar said the Punjab Secretary Industries was on the same page with our viewpoint that a warning should be issued at the first instance and period of seven days be given for cleaning up their premises. Secretary Industries has already taken up the matter with the Commissioner Lahore.

“We fail to understand that on whose behest the anti-Dengue staff acts when it has already been agreed to issue warning before registration of case.”

“With broken roads all around the city, choked sewerage system and over-flowing gutters on almost every road, how the district administration can blame the businessmen for stagnant water and be held responsible for mess outside of their factory premises.”

Farooq Iftikhar said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry is continuously receiving complaints particularly from Sheikhupura Road and Badami Bagh area that the District Administration officials were using arm-twisting tactics for the sake of point scoring and registering FIRs against industrialists without giving them a chance. He said that the FIR or sealing of a business premises should be the last option as it not only deprives the workers of their earnings but defames the government as well.
