SWAT - The three-day First 54-hole Swat Golf Tournament 2013 will commence today (Thursday) here at Cedar Golf Club Kabal, Swat.

The tournament, carrying a purse money of Rs 0.7 million, will be inaugurated by Army senior officials. The coveted tournament is being organised by Pakistan Army in collaboration with civil administration. The tournament will be played at cedar golf club, which is spreading over 973 kanals of land located in the heart of Swat, and it was the first golf tournament in the history of Swat in which a large number of golfers from across the country are participating.

The tournament is open to all associations/golf clubs affiliated with Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) and for professionals registered with the PGF and senior professionals as well. A total of 200 plus golfers are participating in the tournament which also includes 120 professionals from across the country while local players are also taking part in the tournament to exhibit their prowess in the event.

Addressing a press conference, Deputy Commissioner Swat Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah, flanked by Cedar Club secretary Lt Col Syed M Abbas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Golf Association secretary Col (retd) Shahadat Hussain, DC Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah, said that the turmoil period was over now and they wanted to portray the soft image of Swat.

He said after restoration of peace and normalcy in beautiful valley of Swat, conduct of Kalam Summer Festival in 2013, and Swat Sports Gala-2013 proved very successful and attractive many visitors from across the country to revive the badly-affected tourism industry. “We are very determined to hold the event, which is a new addition to the golfing calendar of the Pakistan Golf Federation,” said the Deputy Commissioner.

He said players like Rehman of Lahore Royal Palm, Taimur Naseer, son of professional golfer Naseer Khan, Akbar Qayyum Bokari would be part of the mega event of Swat. There were 20 local golfers from Swat besides top professional and international golfers comprising Adil Jehangir, Imdad Hussain, Shajid, Naseer Khan, Tablib Hussain, M Nazir, M Akhtar, M Tariq, Haroon Rashid of Frontier Corp, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Syed Zahir Shah of City University and Wisal Khan PGC. He said Telenor is sponsoring the event.”
