LAHORE - The FIA Anti Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) on Friday arrested Garden Town Passport Office deputy director, on his alleged involvement in preparation of passports of 11 Afghan nationals. The FIA arrested twelve Afghan nationals including a passport agent on Thursday allegedly involved in preparation of fake Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) and Machine Readable Passports (MRP).

During the preliminary inquiry it was established that Deputy Director Passport Shahid Iqbal and staff members of Garden Town office, Laqa Haider and Muhammad Ibrahim, were behind the passports scam and on Friday FIA arrested Shahid while the rest of the accused managed to escape. Investigators were of the view that more arrests were expected since role of Sheikhupura Nadra office in preparation of fake CNIC could also not be ruled out.

The FIA was also conducting raids for the arrest of travel agent Aman Ullah. All arrested people included Abdul Malik, Raiz Muhammad, Muhammad Irshad, Abdul Majeed, Izzat Ullah, Gul Muhammad, Muhammad Ismaeel, Muhammad Anwar, Ali Muhammad, Abudl Khaliq and Muhammad Raza. Passport agent Liaqat Ali was also arrested who was facilitating the accused on the direction of Aman Ullah.  Travel agent and passport agent have charged Rs 200,000 for preparation of CNIC and MRP of each person, investigator said, adding he had a network of facilitation to foreigner.

An FIA officer said eight CNIC were issued by Lahore Nadra office of Chungi Ammar Sindhu side while three were issued by a Sheikhupora district office.

However, Garden Town office deputy director said he had nothing to do with the entire episode.
