RAWALPINDI - The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) carried out operation against drug mafia in various parts of the country and recovered huge quantity of narcotics.

Some 13 suspected smugglers have also been held while 5 vehicles were impounded by ANF, informed ANF spokesman yesterday. According to him, the ANF conducted 12 operations at different cities of the country and seized 5.5-kg heroin and 317-kg hashish value of which was told to be Rs 793 million in international market.

He said that on a tip-off, the ANF arrested an accused identified as Muhammad Shahnawaz Kayani, resident of AJK, near airport and recovered 2.5-kg heroin tactfully concealed inside his luggage. As per reports, he intended to dispatch the drug abroad through courier service.

Similarly, the ANF Rawalpindi on pursuance of information intercepted a car at Service Road East, F-11/3, Margalla Road, Islamabad, and held an accused identified as Zeeshan Ansari, resident of Peshawar, along with 1-kg heroin. Some 20-kg hashish was also recovered from the possession of a drug trafficker Zakir Ullah in Islamabad, he informed.

The ANF Rawalpindi in an operation conducted near Chungi Number 26, GT Road, arrested a drug carrier namely Muhammad Aslam, resident of Gujranwala, and recovered 3-kg hashish from his possession.

Separately, ANF Rawalpindi airport team detained a passenger named Fazaldad, resident of AJK, at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, who intended to proceed for Jeddah by Shaheen Airline flight number NL-719 and recovered 1-kg heroin concealed in his bag. The team also arrested an accused Muhammad Ikram, a resident of Swat, who confessed of having engulfed heroin-filled capsules. He was to take off for Sharjah by Air Blue flight number PA-212.

All cases have been registered at respective ANF police stations and further investigation is under way, the spokesman said.

AAUR organises seminar on

economic research

Institute of Management Sciences of Pir Mehar Ali Shah University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) organised a one day seminar titled ‘Statistical Methods for Business and Economics Research’ yesterday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion while VC Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Prof Dr Asad Zaman and Prof Dr Eatzaz Ahmed, professor of economics at Islamic International University Islamabad, were keynote speakers.

The objectives of the seminar were to provide an opportunity to research students and faculty members to get an insight of fundamentals of statistics and advance analytical techniques which will help them in their research endeavours.
