RAWALPINDI - Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja has summoned a high-level meeting to chalk out security plan for upcoming local government elections in tehsil Murree.

The meeting would be held at Police Line Number 1 at 11:30am today (Tuesday) which would be attended by City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, SSP (Operations) Karamat Ullah Malik, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO)/SSP Shoaib Khurram Janbaz, SP Dr Sardar Ghias Gull, SP Security and DSP Murree circle, informed a police spokesman yesterday.

On the other hand, Rawalpindi police have finalised all security arrangements for LG polls likely to be held in 5 wards of two union councils of Rawalpindi. For the purpose, some 500 well-equipped police Jawans would perform security duty to avoid any untoward incident on the occasion. Moreover, the police force would be assisted by Punjab Constabulary, Muhafiz Squad, Elite Force, Special Branch and ladies police, the spokesman added.

He said that all kinds of parking would be banned near the polling stations while the voters would also be allowed to go in after body search with metal detectors. The police would make the voters to respect the code of conduct devised by Election Commission of Pakistan, he said adding that the display of weapons would also be banned. Strict action would be taken against the violators, he said.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had delayed the election process in different union councils of Rawalpindi district, in pursuance of the order of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench.

The elections had been postponed in Dhar Jawa, Tret, Murree city, Ghora Gali and Charhan of of Tehsil Murree. In Tehsil Kotli Sattian, the LG polls were postponed in Maloot Sattian, Bhattian, Karor, Letrar and Chajjana union councils. The ECP also delayed elections in six union councils of Rawalpindi tehsil, including Khalool,Beor, Sakoot,Balkhar, Kotha Kalan (I) and Kotha Kalan (II).
