LAHORE - Minister for Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Malik Muhammad Asif Bha Awan has directed expediting tree plantation campaign to achieve the target of planting 12 million saplings during the spring. So far 9, 42,000 saplings have been planted under Spring Tree Plantation Campaign.

Speaking at a ceremony held yesterday, the minister said that more than 18 million plants were available at 212 nurseries and sale points set up by Forests Department. He said that 4.25 million plants would be planted at government forests, one million in government departments, 1.3 million through Defense institutions and 5.45 million plants on private lands.

He said that two plantation fares would be arranged at Punjab University besides six seminars in colleges and universities as well as six walks. He said that Farmers’ Day would also be celebrated for providing information to farmers about latest methods of tree plantation. He said that speech contests would also be arranged in schools.

He said that mobile publicity van has also been prepared that would visit different villages and streets for highlighting importance of trees.

The DG highlighted importance of tress and said they always played an important role in enabling human beings to live in a healthy life on the earth.

He also appreciated officers, staff and cadets for taking a healthy and environment friendly step. “We have to make this academy as a centre of excellence by all means and the initiative of tree plantation would prove a milestone,” he added.
