islamabad - The National Art Gallery (NAG) of Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) is organising ten days portrait painting workshop starting tomorrow (Tuesday).

Dr Sumera Jawad, eminent figurative painter and Resource person for the PhD program Research Centre, College of Art and Design, University of the Punjab, Lahore, will share her expertise and conduct the workshop.

The workshop will include students not only from the twin cities, participants have enrolled themselves from far flung areas like Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, University of Peshawer, University of Hazara, University of Azad Jummu Kashmir, Mirpur and Muzafarabad besides Fatima Jinnah University, Federal Colleges, Margalla College, Government Post Graduate College and others.B A number of free lance artists and students have also registered. The number of participants is exceeding hundred for the ten days workshop designed to enhance portrait painting skills of the budding artists.

The participants will be awarded certificate towards the closing ceremony of the workshop on March 11 at PNCA.

Keeping in view the importance of the portrait painting in fine arts the NAG has been organizing regular workshops and competitions. Eminent painters like Prof Saeed Akhtar, (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) and Prof Dr Mohammad Ali Bhatti were invited to conduct workshops in the past. A portrait painting competition was also arranged amongst the youth and amateur painters in the recent past, said Musarrat Naheed Imam, Director Visual Arts, PNCA while talking to APP.

It is pertinent to mention that PNCA has always upheld students’ interest and frequently organize workshops touching upon varied dimensions of fine arts such as Calligraphy, Islamic ornamentation, Ceramic and pottery, miniature painting, paper making, print making etc. These workshops have helped students to benefit and enhance their skills in a limited time sphere, she said.

The workshop will not only focus on practical skills but also educate the participants about the theoretical training of portrait painting with basic and advanced techniques to bring professionalism in amateur artists.
