LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif yesterday spoke through a tweet in support of recent Punjab Assembly legislation empowering women against their nasty husbands.

Defending the Women’s Protection Bill, the chief minister said that Punjab government’s initiatives regarding women development were in line with the vision of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. “Role of women is critical for progress of Pakistan”, he said.

Shahbaz believed no society could make progress without uplifting the status of its women. He described the bill as harbinger of women’s prosperity in the province.

Earlier on February 24, the chief minister observed that the new legislation will ensure protection to women against domestic violence, psychological and economic exploitation, abusive language, stalking and cyber crimes.
