KARACHI - A new academic block would be constructed at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal Campus of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) at an estimated cost of Rs. 178 million.The Vice-Chancellor of FUUAST, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, laid the foundation stone of the building, a spokesperson of the institution said here on Wednesday.Speaking on the occasion he said there is a need to construct more blocks to accommodate teaching departments.The Vice-Chancellor also emphasised the need of equipping every teaching department with modern facilities as well as labs and library. He was of the view that in the past four years, the FUUAST has made quite a headway and that many of the students have completed their PhD course works. The Project Director, Muhammad Kamran, said on the occasion that the four-story building would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 178 million in 18 months’ time. He said it will accommodate four teaching departments, modern labs, classrooms and auditorium.Meanwhile, The Karachi Police in its drive against criminals, arrested 22 accused from different parts of the city during the past 24 hours. A police statement on Tuesday said those arrested included absconders and proclaimed offenders. It said 14 pistols, two rifles, one mouser, four hand grenades and six mobile phones were also recovered from those arrested. The police have registered cases and have stated investigation, it was further stated.
