BAHAWALPUR - Irate at the 30 hours late arrival of Shalimar Express, being run by private sector, the passengers stopped the train and blocked the track for two hours against the non-professional attitude of the Railway administration.

Reportedly, the train reached Bahawlpur after its engine failed twice on the way.

Due the protest of the passengers, two trains on the way from Lahore -Awami Express and Karachi Night coach stranded at the railway station. On the occasion, police personnel dressed in civvies clashed with the protesting passengers. The police also arrested one of the protesting passengers. Meanwhile, passengers including Safdar, Malik Akbar, Liaquat Ali and others told the media that ‘big guns’ were involved in corruption which had destroyed the railways.

Malik Akbar, with tears in his eyes, narrated that his sister was admitted to a hospital in Rawalpindi. She has been put on ventilator and I am worried how will be to reach Rawalpindi,” he pointed.

A resident of Faisalabad Safdar was crying and said that his father had died and his funeral had been delayed till his arrival but the train situation had disappointed him.

DSP City Mirza Arif Rasheed and police force from the Saddr, Cantt and Civil Lines police stations were also deployed to meet any unpleasant situation. Later, the DSP climbed up the engine and told the driver to drive the engine. He also assured the passengers that engine was repaired and ready for journey.
