FAISALABAD - The Academic Staff Association of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and B&C Employees on the call of federation of All-Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), observed black day and took a protest rally against budgetary cut of HEC funds and placing it under the Ministry of Professional and Technical Training.

Wearing black armbands and chanting slogans against budgetary cut the academic staff continued their protest for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday.

The protesters pointed out that non-payment of monthly salaries due cut in the HEC funds would cause great unrest among the teaching and administrative staff of the universities.

They urged the government to avert the situation of forcing the academic staff to roads and stressed the need for immediately release of funds so that academic and research activities could be kept continued.

 Addressing the protesters, ASA President Dr Munir Ahmad Sheikh said that it had become very difficult to pay salaries of about Rs90 million and spending Rs20 million each on pensions, utilities and others expenditure in a month. He maintained that the UAF was under great stress due to budgetary cut by the Ministry of Finance.

ASA General Secretary Rana Amir Saeed Khan assured that the protests would remain peaceful and raise their voices in a civilized manner. If our demands are not fulfilled we will compelled to launch a massive protest after July 1,” he added.

He urged the government to immediately release the funds to HEC and restore the autonomous status of the Higher Education to save future of higher education in the country.
