KARACHI - KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed visited the Urban Search and Rescue Center (USRC) at Super Highway along with Director General Technical Altaf G. Memon, Senior Director Municipal Services Dr. Shoukat Zaman, Chief Engineer District East Mehmood Hussain Baloch and other officers.Speaking on the occasion, he said the staff of this center has been trained to save human lives in case of any casualty or disaster and these people are doing commendable job, said a statement issued by the KMC here on Monday.He said timely search and rescue action could save lot of lives where buildings collapsed and people got trapped under the huge pile of rubble.Saving a person’s life was like saving the whole humanity. It was a good omen to have urban search and rescue center established, besides the fire brigade, he said.In a briefing, Muhammad Hussain Syed was informed that municipal staff of other organisations, including NGOs and universities, was also getting useful training in this centre.The center has search cameras and other searching equipment and devices with 16 trained dogs which are used to search survivors in the rubble of collapsed structures.The administrator was informed that these sniffer dogs were used successfully during the rescue operation carried out in the collapsed buildings of Liaquatabad, Mithadar and Lyari. The workers were getting search and rescue training on modern lines to deal with the casualties and they have the ability to perform well in case of any natural disaster or collapse of building.He said these people would be provided with all necessary guardingapparatus and latest equipment.
