ISLAMABAD Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Naveed Ahsan has extended a formal request to Establishment Division to lend the services of Secretary Narcotics Division and former DG FIA Tariq Khosa to NAB for investigation into the Bank of Punjab loan scam. Sources in the NAB informed that Chairman NAB had extended this request to Establishment Division in the light of the direction of Supreme Court of Pakistan, which had directed NAB to employ the services of Tariq Khosa for the job. In the meantime, NAB Chairman had dissociated incumbent Prosecutor General Irfan Qadir from Bank of Punjab scam investigation on the orders of the Supreme Court as during the course of hearing in Hameesh Khan case it transpired in the court that Irfan Qadir had allegedly taken hefty money from owner of the Haris Steel Mills, Sh Afzal, for getting his case settled from the court of law in his favour. The sources in the department informed that in the light of the Supreme Court of Pakistans direction Chairman NAB Naveed Ahsan was contemplating to move a reference against Attorney General Irfan Qadir to remove him from his post, as the SC bench hearing the Bank of Punjab scam case had expressed serious reservations and questioned NAB that who had appointed such a person on such an important post. Under the NAB law the procedure of removal of Chairman or Prosecutor General NAB was the same as of the judge of the apex court and a reference had to be filed against him to the Supreme Judicial Council. The sources informed that either the Chairman NAB Naveed Ahsan would ask the Prosecutor General Irfan Qadir to tender resignation or a reference against him would be filed with the Supreme Judicial Council seeking his removal from the slot. The sources in the department further informed that Chairman NAB had made it clear to all and sundry in the department that he would go by the book and would not tolerate negligence on part of any of the functionary of the department. In the late night meeting held under his chair a couple of days back Chairman NAB Naveed Ahsan had cautioned all his investigators and prosecutors that they should improve their performance as under the direction of the apex court he would not tolerate laxity on part of them. The working of NAB came under the spotlight since the handing down of the apex court verdict in NRO case and the delaying tactics adopted by the government in its implementation.
