LAHORE - An election tribunal of Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed a petition challenging the victory of Federal Minister for Industries Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo from NA-146, Okara. The tribunal after conclusion of arguments on May 20 had reserved the decision. PML-Q candidate Rao Muhammad Ajmal who had lost election against Wattoo from the same constituency said that according to the election commission results, he had obtained 46,006 votes while his opponent Manzoor Wattoo secured 46,941 votes. He said retuning officers while consolidating result gave undue advantage to Mr Wattoo and never examined these rejected votes, which they were duty bound to do. He alleged that Wattoos son Khurram Jahangir Wattoo, who is Town Nazim where this constituency falls, used local bodys machinery to secure a victory for his father. He said the security arrangements in the area were not satisfactory as one person was shot dead while numbers of other were injured in different incident. He said he complained to returning officer but he paid no heed. Petitioner also alleged that his polling agents were also threatened and forced out of polling stations to help respondent in manipulating ballot papers. He requested to the court that Manzoor Wattoo might be de-seated and he declared as winner.
