PESHAWAR -  Physically Disabled Players Para Olympic Games competition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will start here today.

The mega event will be partook by male and female disabled players from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Tribal Areas and Islamabad while the events of badminton, athletics, long tennis and cricket will be held at Peshawar University and Qayum Stadium. This was stated by special assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education Dr Mehar Taj Roghani during the press conference held here at the Qayum Stadium on Wednesday. Chairman Para Olympics Azmat Hanif Orakzai, secretary organising committee Kifayatullah Orakzai, DG Sports Rasheeda Ghaznavi, Director Information Imdadullah and other players and members of the committee were also present there. He informed that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak will formally inaugurate the games in Qayum Stadium today (Thursday) at 11am.

Roghani said that nearly 300 players including 15 bodies’ players will participate in the event. She further told that KP uplift programme has arranged entertainment, eating, drinking and other basic facilities for the players while PTI volunteers apart from 30 workers of the volunteer committee for these games will provide their services for this noble cause. She added that selection of Pakistan team players for Asian Games will be made in these Para Olympic competitions. She termed holding of such activities strive for disabled individuals to equalize with other normal persons of the society and providing opportunities of walk and recreation to these persons.

She urged the media persons to play their active role in highlighting this event.

“Parents feel a shame in bringing their children out for such events but it is our promise with them that by participating in these games, they not only earn good name for their parents but also for the country,” she concluded.
