LAHORE The legal fraternity throughout the province urged the government to demand custody of Nato attackers and their prosecution under war crimes. On a call given by Supreme Court Bar Association, Lahore High Court Bar Association and Punjab Bar Council, the lawyers on Monday boycotted the courts in protest against the Nato airstrikes on Pakistani checkpost, killing 24 soldiers. The LHCBA held a protest rally on GPO Chowk against and chanted slogans against the US government. The lawyers were demanding the Pakistani government to ensure complete sovereignty of the country. The SCBA and LHCBA unanimously passed resolutions at their joint sessions against the attack and demanded the government to permanently block the Natos supplyline. The bars also demanded implementation in letter and spirit on decision taken by the Defence Committee of the Cabinet, blockage of the Nato supply routes as well as the deadline to vacate Shamsi airbase. They insisted that drone attacks must be stopped once and for all otherwise drones must be targeted. LHCBA arranged a general house meeting at Kiani Hall of bar which was attended by SCBA vice president Imrana Baloch, secretary Aslam Zar, LHCBA president Asghar Gill, secretary Arshad Malik Awan, Advocate Ahmed Awais, and Azam Nazir Tarar. They demanded Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvaiz Kiani to retaliate in the same way. Asghar Gill said, addressing the meeting, rulers and military brass should listen the voice of the people who are terming friends of US as traitors. All state institutions should fulfill their responsibility; Gill said adding that legal fraternity would raise voice against violation of geographical boundaries of the country. Imrana Baloch said Nato forces violated international laws and sovereignty of Pakistan by attacking on Pakistani force. She demanded the government to avail every legal remedy against the enemies and said the government must demand custody of the attackers whosoever they were and prosecute them under war crimes. Ahmed Awais said that Nato attack on Pakistani force was a deliberate attack. The US wanted to test our independence and sovereignty by making such attacks. He said not only the legal community but also the whole nation was protesting against this attack. He said the government should change its foreign polity keeping in view Pakistans benefit.
