ISLAMABAD - The UNIDO in collaboration with Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC) participated in the exhibition at the Convention Centre Islamabad on 26th and 27th November by setting up an enclosure displaying products made by the women entrepreneurs trained in the Marble Mosaic, says a press release. The marble products at display attracted a large number of visitors and buyers who appreciated the quality of the products. The products were made by the women entrepreneurs trained in the marble mosaic training conducted by the UNIDO in Karachi, Islamabad and other parts of the country under its Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme(WED). The WED is aimed at helping the women to expand self employment and livelihood opportunities through productive work and income generating activities to alleviate poverty and promote female economic empowerment. The main challenge women entrepreneurs in Pakistan encounter are limited access to information and support services, ineffective linkages within the supply chain partners and limited access to markets. This weakens their bargaining position with middle men/ women who enjoy the bulk of the revenues. In an effort to contribute and add value to the marble sector of Pakistan, the WED Programme partnered with the Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC) to train women in the highly non-traditional sector of Marble Mosaic and Inlay through conducted multifarious training activities for them.
