LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Tuesday dismissed the petition against Election Commission of Pakistan for not summoning the returning officers as witnesses on the controversy of 211 bags of votes in NA-118, holding the interim order of the tribunals cannot be challenged before the courts.

It was the third application of PML-N MNA Malik Riaz that was rejected by the court. As the proceedings commenced, the petitioner’s counsel contended that the whole record of the election was sent to Nadra for verification but 211 bags were missing. He said later the election tribunal rejected those bags declaring that the bags were irrelevant.  The petitioner pleaded that all the returning officers should be summoned to testify that 211 bags were parts of the election record but the gags were missing.  After hearing the arguments of petitioner’s counsel, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah dismissed the petition and observed that the interim order of the election tribunals cannot be challenged before the courts. –Staff Reporter
