Islamabad - Islamabad police have identified around two-dozen prominent figures that could be targeted by the terrorists during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram, it was reliably learnt on Tuesday.

In a report submitted to the interior ministry, the local police claimed that terrorists may attack prominent figures, including Iranian ambassador in Pakistan, to create tension in the twin cities on sectarian lines. According to the report, most of those who are on the potential hit list of the terrorists are from a particular sect. The list includes Allama Nasir Abbas, Faisal Saleh Hayat, Hamid Ali Moosvi, Allama Sajid Naqvi, Maulana Sharif Hazarvi, Begum Abida Hussain, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Maulana Abdul Aziz, Dr Ghazanfar Mehdi, Maulana Nazir Farooqi, Agha Murtaza Poya and others. Keeping in view the threat, the Islamabad police have made necessary arrangements for the security of these personalities, the sources added.

However, when contacted, sources in the interior ministry denied having received such information and added it was already on high alert and has already taken necessary steps to ensure safety and security of the citizens during the month of Muharram. On the other hand, high-level police officials in Islamabad also denied having submitted such a report to the interior ministry.
