Islamabad - Nepra on Tuesday changed venue and date of hearing for fuel charges adjustment request of K-electric, which is seeking up to 77 paisas decrease in the tariff of July and August 2014.

The authority had earler announced to hold the hearing on October 30 in Islamabad but, on the request of the stakeholders, Nepra has decided to hold the public hearing on November 11 at a local hotel in Karachi.

Unlike other distribution companies of the country, K-Electric has submitted that it saved money on electricity generation and wanted to pass on the benefit to the consumers.

K-Electric submitted the fuel cost adjustment request to the authority on September 15, stating a variation of Rs 222.443 million for the month of July, while it reported Rs.136.513 million fuel cost variation of external generation sources.

The distribution company calculated the total variation of Rs 85.930 million for the said month; while total units sent out have been 1591.845.

On the basis of above data, company has requested a decrease of 5.39 paisas in the electricity bills of its consumers for July.

For the month of August 2014, the company has stated that the fuel cost variation of K-Electric’s own generation was Rs.812.879 million, while fuel cost variation of external generation sources also declined to Rs. 345.332 million.

According to data provided by the company, the total variation for the month of August was Rs. 1158.211 million decrease and company sent out 1511.133 million kilowatt hour units.

On the basis of above data, company wants to reduce the tariff of consumers by 77 paisas per unit for the month of August.

It is pertinent to mention that in data submitted in Nepra, K-Electric has stated that 15 percent line losses occurred during the month of September. The company has been reporting a two per cent decrease in line losses since July 2014.

 In June 2014, the line losses were 17 per cent, according to company record.
