Three people were killed and another sustained critical injuries when a passenger jeep plunged into Jhelum River near the capital city of Muzaffarabad late the other night, officials said.

The ill-fated private jeep with four persons onboard, met the accident while passing through a dilapidated suspension bridge over Jhlelum River at village Raara, about 10 km from Muzaffarabad city. As soon as the bridge broke down, the vehicle plunged into the river, the capital police official told this scribe Tuesday. The vehicle was on the way to the remote village of Domaishi from Raara.

Resultantly three of its passengers died on the spot while the fourth one survived with serious wounds, the official said.

All the three bodies were recovered from the river by the rescue teams. However, identities of the deceased could not be ascertained yet.

The suspension bridge was constructed by the AJK Local Government but could not be maintained following reported negligence of the institution concerned responsible for renovation and repair. The police have registered a case and started investigation.

In Toba Tek Singh, a youth committed suicide over severe financial crunch here in Gojra.

According to his relatives, deceased Malik Shoban, a resident of Rasool Nagar took poison following prolonged unemployment. He was referred by Gojra THQ hospital doctors to Faisalabad Allied hospital where he died.
