ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court on Friday suspended the execution of a notification of President POA Gen (R) Arif Hasan (Sept. 7) in which Brig (R) Arif Mahmud Siddiqui was temporarily debarred from holding any office of any sports organization affiliated with the POA.

Justice Muhammad Azim Khan Afridi of IHC issued this directive on the application of Arif Siddiqui wherein he prayed to the court to direct the Pakistan Sports Board to perform its functions as defined in the clause 4 of SRO 222(1)8181 dated:-16-03-1981 and implement the SRO 1249(1)/2005 dated:-5th December 2005 revised national sports policy 2005.

Siddiqui had filed a fresh writ petition before the IHC along with a contempt of court petition.

The court observed that since Arif Hasan is also holding office for more than two terms as president POA, and the basic writ petition involves question of implementation of sport policy which includes bar of holding office for more than two tenures, such an initiative on his behalf over a bona fide dispute of implementation of sports policy being adjudicated is illogical. The court also issued contempt notice to Arif Hasan on contempt application identifying the letter of temporary debarment as contemptuous in its body.
