SIALKOT-  The farmers and dealers have created artificial shortage of the poultry and eggs in Sialkot district, due to which the prices of the poultry meat and eggs have jumped to the highest level of this winter season.

The wholesale rate of eggs is Rs115 to Rs120 per dozen while the retailers are selling eggs at Rs130 in Sialkot district's all the four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils. There is shortage of chicken at the poultry shops due to which the rate has jumped to Rs255 per kg.

The shopkeepers said that the poultry farmers have hoarded and stocked chicken at their farms in a bid to get the prices of chickens increased upto Rs300 per kg at least in the local markets.  The local people said that the situation had taken the eggs out of reach of the common man. Consumers' Rights Protection Forum Chairman Dr Muneer Butt expressed grave concern over the critical situation. He said that the district price control committees had miserably failed to control prices and bringing the prices of eggs and chicken meat to the affordable level.
