LAHORE - Punjab Excise and Taxation (E&T) department on Sunday during General Holdup retained documents of 572 vehicles and 15 other were impounded, said spokesman of E&T here. He said that General Holdup was being exercised for last many days to collect token tax and to check registration documents.

Different teams were formed to set pickets in various parts of the city. Team members were well equipped this time like vehicles and weapons since a few days back E&T checking team was attacked by some transporters.  The team was on routine checking when the team members stopped a tractor driver and was asked to show token tax paid documents. But tractor and dumpers owners gathered at the spot and started torturing team members. Team members telephoned their office and informed Director Motor Transport Imran Aslam about the whole story. The Director rushed to the spot and also informed police concerned. Baghbanpura police registered a case but as per Excise sources police was reluctant to arrest the accused.

Now the checking teams have been given full support by the Excise Director office to deal with any untoward incident.
