ISLAMABAD - Amid severe cold weather, power shortfall has touched 1700MW, as a result to this duration of the power outages increased in cities and rural areas of the country.

Sources in the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) informed that electricity shortfall has been increased due to reduction in Indus River System Authority (IRSA) indents during annual canals closure. Power generation on Sunday remained at 9,500 megawatts against a demand of 11,200 megawatts and left behind a shortfall of 1700 megawatts.  The sources further informed that power generation through various sources including hydel, thermal and independent power producers (IPPs) was registered at 1350 mw, 1750mw and 6400mw respectively.
