LAHORE - A case has been registered against Pakistan Awami Tehreek chairman Dr Allama Tahirul Qadri, his son Dr Hussain Muhayyuddin and other party office-bearers for violating section 144 by holding a rally on the Mall.

Police on Sunday said the case was registered for violating section 144 of Pakistan Penal Code with two police stations – Old Anarkali and Civil Lines. The section 144 was imposed on the order of the Lahore High Court on an application seeking ban over holding rallies and public gatherings on the Mall.

It may also be mentioned here that a similar report was also registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Imran Khan and other party workers a few days back when they took out a rally against price hike.

Meanwhile, about 1,500 constables including sharp-shooters and snipers provided security to the PAT rally taken out against inflation on Sunday.

DIG Operations Rana Abdul Jabbar and SP Civil Lines Sarfraz Virk personally visited the spot and reviewed the security arrangements. Snipers and sharp-shooters were deputed at different buildings around the way from Nasir Bagh to Punjab Assembly to avoid any untoward incident.

All roads leading to the Punjab Assembly were blocked with heavy barriers and barbwires. The participants were left with no other option but to join the rally from far away points due to high security arrangements. Two suspects were also held when they were entering the rally.

Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan said that after the PTI’s failure, the drama of Tahirul Qadri has also flopped.

In a statement issued here Sunday, the minister said that in fact, the rally of Tahirul Qadri is a gathering of families of teachers and students of Minhajul Quran. He said by rejecting such demos, the masses have proved there is no room for the politicians with negative designs. He said that the nation has rejected the people who do not want to see democracy flourishing in the country. Rana said that condition of the people who were brought forcibly to the rally is pitiable, and it is the worst example of highhandedness. He said that if Qadri wanted reforms in the system, he should have participated in the general elections.

He said that Imran Khan should beware as the number of people in the PAT rally was higher than the so-called Tsunami of the PTI. He said that the people, who could not win a councillor seat, are insulting the public mandate for their personal ends.

It is ridiculous to claim that the gathering of people was in millions, the minister said adding that the rally participants were shivering in the open while Maulana was sitting in a comfortable room.
