GROWERS MAKING GURR FROM SUGAR: The growers have started making gurr from sugar instead of sugarcane as what they said the prices of gurr are low in the local markets while the cost of making it from sugarcane is very high.  Growers including Allah Rakha, Bashir Hussain, Muhammad Iqbal, Ghulam Rasul, Nasir Iqbal, Ghulam Hussain and Muhammad Yaseen said that the trend of making gurr from sugar was gaining momentum day by day across the Punjab especially Sialkot district. They were of the view that the wholesale and retail prices of gurr were much low. Fine quality gurr is being sold at Rs90 to 100 per kg while the low quality gurr was available at Rs70 to 80 per kg depending on its quality.

However, the shopkeepers are not satisfied with the quality of gurr made from sugar.
