BAJAUR AGENCY - Bajaur Agency, Political Agent, Islam Zeb Khan inaugurated anti-polio campaign in Bajaur Agency on Sunday, urging the local people to support the Health Department workers so as to eradicate polio from the region.

He was speaking in the inauguration ceremony of five days anti-polio drive in the agency headquarters hospital Khar on Sunday. A large number of tribal elders, religious, social and political leaders of the agency also attended the ceremony.

He said that the government committed to eliminate the polio from all over the country because the polio disease is sharply spreading among the children and hundreds of kids had been disable from the polio various. He said the e number of polio cases continues in the tribal area and therefore the government full   alert to clear the fata from the polio.  He said that the government straggling for the complete elimination of this disease and for this fur poses all the concerned officials advised to show more activeness in this regards.

The PA urged local people, Ulema, civil society members and officials to cooperate with the health workers and make the campaign successive. He said that several meetings have already been arranged with the local elders and Ulama of the different areas who were the main hurdle in the anti polio vaccination and they have assured their support for the upcoming campaign.

Islam Zeb Khan formally inaugurated the campaign and administered polio drops to child. During media briefing, Dr Jahanzeb Dawar said a total of 210855 children under the age of five would be administered in anti-polio vaccination across the agency starting from Monday. He said that 570 mobile teams have been constituted which go door-to-door campaign in Bajaur Agency. He said that despite mobile teams they have comprised 15 transit teams at various points.

Dr Jahanzeb Dawar said the Health Department had already completed its preparation said no ignorance would be tolerated from any health workers. Dr Jahanzeb Dawar told that the health workers are fully devoted to make possible their reach to the far-flung areas where hundreds of children need to be administered polio drops. It may be added here during 2011 five polio cases have been registered in the Mamond and Barang areas of the agency.

15,4000 kids to be vaccinated in Khyber

All arrangements have been finalised for the anti-polio drive in Khyber Agency, starting today.

The inauguration ceremony of anti-polio campaign was held here in Jamrud, which was besides health officials attended by a large number of tribal elders, Ulema and local masses. Principal Government Boys High School No 2 Jamrud Juma Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking to the gathering Agency surgeon Khyber Agency Dr Azam Wazir said that the world controlled polio while Pakistan was among four countries where polio cases were still being reported. He stressed upon all the segments of the society to consider it national motto and play their due role in the up-coming anti- polio campaign to eradicate the disease from the country.

Principal Juma Khan while addressing to the ceremony said that with out the assistance of general masses government could not wipe out the polio virus from the country therefore he urged the people to pursue every single parent to feed anti-polio drops to their kids. Addressing to the gathering tribal elites and Ulema extended unconditional support and said that they would leave no stone unturned to make the drive successful. At the end the chief guest administered polio drops to children by formally kicked off the drive.

Sharing the details Agency Health Communication Support Officer (AHCSO) Dr. Sher Amin said that the campaign would take place in whole of Khyber agency except some restless areas of Bara,including Sapeenkabr, Mandaykas, Jansi camp, Mustake, Tora vella etc. 154000 children below five years have been set target to be vaccinated in the drive, he added. Total 462 teams have been comprised by the health department for the purpose. In which 434 mobile teams have been embodied mobile to visit door to door to feed polio drops to the children. Similarly 9 teams have been deployed in all public transport areas to facilitate the masses. In addition 19 teams have been specialized in hospital, Basic Health Centers (BHUs) and other health centers, he further added. At the end, he lauded the role of administration, journalists and religious communities with the support of which they could easily gain their target and soon will make Pakistan free of polio. It is worth mentioning here that except four countries, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and Nigeria poliovirus have been eradicated from the World.
