At least three people including a commander of banned militant outfit Ansarul Islam Haji Akhundzada were killed and seven injured in a suicide attack in the Pakha Ghulam, a suburban area of Peshawar on Monday evening.

Among the seven injured two are children. Five of those injured are in critical condition. The explosion took place at an under construction house belonging to the leader of a banned organisation (Ansar-ul-Islam).

DCO Peshawar confirmed that the commander of banned organisation Ansar-ul-Islam, Haji Akhundzada and his son in law Atiq were among those killed during the attack. This was the second attempt on the life of Akhundzada. He said that about three kilogram of explosive material was used in the attack. Peshawar has been on the frontline of suicide attacks and runs into the lawless tribal belt on the Afghan border that is headquarters for militant groups. Yameen Khan, a police officer, confirmed that the target was Akhunzada, who was a commander in the Ansarul Islam militant group in the Khyber tribal agency.
