Islamabad - The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council have agreed to constitute a reform committee to streamline the procedures and functioning of the PM&DC.

President PM&DC Prof Dr Masood Hameed along with Vice President Prof Dr Syed Muhammad Awais called on State Minister Saira Afzal Tarar here Thursday. Secretary NHSR&C Muhammad Ayub Sheikh and director general health were also present on the occasion.

The PM&DC president briefed the minister on the functioning of PM&DC. Detailed discussion was held on ways and means of improve quality of medical education and resolving issues faced by medical students and graduates.

To this end, it was resolved to constitute a reform committee to be tasked with streamlining the procedures and functioning of PM&DC. It was agreed that terms of reference in this connection will be developed.

The meeting held in a cordial atmosphere also discussed threadbare the issue of moratorium on opening of new medical colleges and matters relating to registration of foreign students.

The minister emphasised that improving the quality of medical education was critical to provision of quality health services to the masses and no compromise should be made in that regard.
