Rawalpindi - A woman gave birth to a baby in the gallery of Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Gujar Khan when a lady doctor allegedly refused to provide her medical treatment in the labour room, reliable sources revealed to The Nation here on Thursday.

According to sources, a pregnant lady namely Amrat Bibi, wife of Waseem Ahmed, was brought to THQ Hospital Gujar Khan in critical condition from Nawahi Wakeelan by her heirs. The lady was taken to labour room where a lady doctor Iram Shehzadi refused to deal the delivery case and referred the patient to Allied Hospitals Rawalpindi despite her critical condition, sources added. The heirs were taking the crying lady out of the labour room when she gave birth to child in the gallery of the hospital. The heirs started protest against the negligence of the doctors. The heirs also lodged complaint with medical superintendent of the hospital against the lady doctor.

Sources said that the hospital administration pushed the matter under the carpet instead of taking departmental action against the accused lady doctor, who was told to be sister of a local PML-N leader.

Medical Superintendent THQ Gujar Khan Dr Pervaiz, when contacted by this scribe, appeared with an astonishing answer that the lady was sitting in sunshine after Maghrib time when she felt gynae pain and was immediately taken to labour room where she gave birth to the baby.

When this scribe asked as which sun appeared on the sky after Magrib under which the patient was sitting, he immediately changed his stance and said, “The patient was brought in hospital at 12:00 pm and she was sitting under sun as per her own sweet will. What we doctors can do if a patient sit under the sun? It was purely her own choice to sit under the sun,” he said. The MS categorically denied that the lady gave birth to baby in hospital gallery.
