LAHORE – The Punjab government under its Green Tractor Scheme 2012-14 has sought applications till August 22, for provision of tractors at subsidized rates.

Under the scheme 20,000 tractors on Rs 200,000 subsidy on each tractor will be provided with an aim to facilitate young farmers to earn livelihood at their own, official sources told APP on Sunday.

They said eligible applicants must not have more than 2.5 acre land in the tehsil concerned and he himself cultivates the land. Only applicants (male/female) with age between 18 and 35 can apply for the scheme.

Besides, he or she must not have obtained loan for buying a tractor from any bank during the last five years nor be a bank defaulter. Sources made it clear that applicants who availed the facility under central government’s Benazir Tractor Scheme would not be entertained.

Senators, MPs and government officers above grade 17 would not be eligible for the scheme, sources added.

Under the condition, sources said, recipients cannot transfer tractors after its receiving for the next three years. In the first phase 10,000 tractors would be distributed through balloting.
