LAHORE - The FBR Federal Revenue Alliance Union has congratulated the newly-appointed Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue Ali Arshad Hakeem.

In a letter to the new Chairman, FBR central union president Mian Abdul Qayyum said that the workers have attached their hopes with Ali Arshad Hakeem because of his excellent performance as Chairman National Database Registration Authority (NADRA). He said that the new chairman would have to utilise his best abilities to facilitate the employees who are collecting revenues for the government despite all odds.

He said that the new Chairman has big responsibility on his shoulders, as in the budget 2012-13 the revenue target has been enhanced. He said that like previous years the employees union would continue to support the FBR revenue collection drive but Chairman would have to facilitate the workers also by fulfilling their long-standing demands, including upgradation of FBR inspectors and Customs second cadre’s staff that consists of preventive officers, superintendents, deputy superintendents and valuers.

The Union President demanded the chairman to withdraw cases against supervisors by the CPLA in Supreme Court. He appreciated the setting up of the FBR Foundation but lamented that the 93.5 percent non-gazetted staff of the FBR has no representation in the management of the Foundation. He said that the union has already applied for changes in the basic rules of the Foundation. He urged the chairman to fulfil the union’s charter of demand.

Qayyum said that the union had brought to the FBR authorities notice many issues that need an early attention of the FBR Chairman. He also urged the FBR Chairman to take steps to expedite liaison with the workers, who are the backbone of the tax department.
