Reiterating the government’s resolve to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the country, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said Abdul Qadir Gilani’s success in by-polls is a vindication of the pro-people policies of the PPP regime as well as their faith in the present coalition leadership. Prime Minister Raja expressed these views at a meeting with former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at Aiwan-e-Sadar here Sunday.

The meeting which lasted for over two hours discussed wide range of issues including the current political situation in the country.

The Prime Minister also congratulated him on the success of his son, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, as MNA from NA-151, Multan.

Raja said the return of Qadir Gilani in the bye-polls silenced all those who had doubts about PPP’s popularity. His return is a vindication of the pro-people policies of the government. He said people in that way have also expressed their faith in the present coalition government. He was confident that the PPP along with its allies would win the next general elections as well.

The prime minister said that Gilani’s commitment to uphold the Constitution will be long remembered.

The appointment of Mr Fakhruddin G Ibrahim, an eminent jurist of impeccable integrity should put to rest any speculations about the next general elections, he emphasised.

Gilani thanked the prime minister for his sentiments. He said he would continue to work for the party and welfare of the people.
