ISLAMABAD - Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed his resolve to defeat designs of the enemies stoking terror to destabilise Pakistan.

General Raheel Sharif, who is on an official visit to Italy, stated this in his talk he delivered on Wednesday at the Center of International Study, Rome to give Pakistani perspective on international security.

According to ISPR, the Army Chief said for the world, terrorism is a conflict but for Pakistan it is war for survival.

He said operation Zarb-e-Azb is a comprehensive concept against terrorism and it will ensure terror-free Pakistan and the region. He said the operation has progressed well and now last few pockets are being cleared.

He said that Zarb-e-Azb will ensure peace in Pakistan and beyond, terrorist will not be allowed to re-establish again, adding that comprehensive resettlement and rebuild plan are in place for these areas. "Better Border coordination mechanism with Afghanistan will be ensured," General Raheel Sharif said.

He said Pakistan and Afghanistan are uniquely and inseparably placed and peace in one country is not possible without peace in the other.

He said Pakistan is making sincere efforts for reconciliation but there is a need to beware of detractors and spoilers who challenge both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Army Chief said that terrorism has attacked our common roots. Global threat needs global response and support. "Only together we can win this war against terrorism," he concluded.

While giving Pakistan perspectives on international security, COAS said that Pakistan and Afghanistan are uniquely, inseparably placed.

Peace in one country is not possible without peace in another. Pakistan has shown sincere efforts for reconciliation. General Raheel Sharif appreciated that International community acknowledges Pakistan's efforts for reconciliation.

He said that detractors should not be allowed who are challenging both Pakistan and Afghanistan as dividends of peace and prosperity is for all.

COAS talk was widely accepted and appreciated by audience, intelligentsia and senators.

On Tuesday, the COAS, visited the army headquarters and held meetings with Italian military leadership. He was presented a guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of Italian army upon his arrival.

During his meeting with Italian army Chief Lt Gen Danilo Errico, matters pertaining to military-to-military relations, enhancing cooperation, defence collaboration and training were discussed.

The Italian army chief praised Pakistan Army for its sacrifices and role in securing the region.

The COAS also held a meeting with Italian Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Claudio Graziano and discussed with him regional security and defence collaboration.

The COAS was quoted as saying, "Pak Army has lot to offer to other armies." The CDF appreciated Pakistan's success and expertise in fighting terrorism. "We see Pakistan Army with respect and admiration," he said. The CDF vowed to eliminate terrorism together.
