KARACHI - An on-duty doctor at the city’s major government run hospital was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his office room on Friday.

Dr Anil Kumar was found dead in a locked room in Civil Hospital, Karachi. The deceased doctor Anil Kumar was posted as a medical officer in medical ICU of the hospital. The doctor was deputed to serve at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward of the hospital and he went to the5:30am to his room located next to ICU. A sweeper knocked at the door of the doctor’s room but nobody opened it.

“The staff was trying to wake him up since 7:30am when a staff nurse opened his room by key at 8:15am, she found the doctor dead while sitting in a chair,” said Eidgah police station SHO Naeemuddin. “A syringe and at least three sedative injections were found near the body.”

Police officials remained unable to ascertain the nature behind his death, however, they suspected that the doctor might have committed suicide or he was drug addict and died due to over douse.

“Some more similar marks of the injection were also appeared in his body which suggested that the doctors might be an addiction,” the officer explained. “Most probably, he died due to over douse instead of committing suicide.”

The officer said that the police was also waiting for the post-mortem report of the doctor which would help police in probing his death. Apart from this, the officer said that the police would have also to record the statements of his colleagues, nursing staff as well as his family and friends about to probe a case. His body after conducting an autopsy was taken to his hometown Larkana.

Five outlaws held

An alleged bike lifter among five accused were arrested by Karachi police from different parts of metropolis in last 24 hours. The police also recovered weapons from the possession of arrested accused. 

According to details, Tamouria police apprehended two accused red-handedly while they were looting a citizen. The accused were identified as Sanaullah and Yasin. The police recovered snatched cell phones and two pistols from their possession.

The Brigade police arrested two outlaws and recovered two pistols. SP Jamshed Quarter, Tahir Noorani, informed that arrested accused have been identified as Govend son of Rama and Muhamamd Faisal.

SHO, Bilal Colony police station, Murtaza Majeed during snap checking arrested alleged bike lifter namely Muhammad Shahid and recovered a snatched motorcycle.

The cases have been registered and further investigations are underway.
