The overwhelming ubiquity of guns and other lethal weapons open the floodgate to crime and criminals in our urban and rural society. Karachi faces problems of its own. It became synonymous with guns, crime and violence in the recent past. This cosmopolitan city was reported to have the highest rate of gun related deaths not only in the country but also in the world. Now things have significantly improved but gun and other legal and illegal weapons control is a glaring problem.

Like many other peace lovers, I strongly believe that guns, be legal or illegal always fuel violent crime, wreak deadly havoc in society, but who cares?

A vast majority of people in the corridors of power and politics and many people in power and authority and even members of the legal fraternity believe in this frequently quoted slogan of Mao Zedong who once said, “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” So many of them protect and promote gun wielders in this society. Look at their reported “militant wings” which are only meant for mass murder, shooting sprees and rampages.
