Rawalpindi - Two cops were injured when land grabbers pelted a police raiding party with stones and bricks to avoid arrest at Dhalla Village of Adiala Union Council, reliable sources told The Nation yesterday.

According to sources, Saddar Bairooni police carried out a raid at a house in Dhalla Village to arrest two accused Master Iqbal and his son Junaid wanted by police in a case of land grabbing and attacking a police party registered with the Police Station Saddar Bairooni on June 3, 2016.

However, the accused and their accomplices showed stiff resistance to police party and started pelting the cops with bricks and stones. As a result, two cops sustained serious injuries, sources said adding. However, police managed to arrest accused namely Junaid.

Sources said that it was such a brazen attack that cops hardly saved their lives and had left a motorcycle and a part of riffle at the site. However, the names of injured cops could not be ascertained.

The motorcycle and the part of official riffle could not be retrieved by police so far, sources said.  SHO Saddar Bairooni registered a fresh case against the accused.

When contacted, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Saddar Circle Salim Khattak confirmed the incident. He said that police held an accused Junaid, son of Master Iqbal and shifted him to police station for further investigation.

On the other hand, police during a drive against anti-social elements arrested four suspects and recovered 1435 grams of Charas and 3 pistols of 30 bore with eight bullets from their possession. Separate cases have been registered against the accused while further investigation was underway, informed a police spokesman.
