KARACHI - Joining other political parties in the electoral campaign for the upcoming local bodies polls on December 5, the Pakistan People’s Party also carried out a rally from one corner of Karachi to other in order to woo its voters on Sunday.

The PPP rally took the route initiating from Bilawal House roundabout and passed through Shireen Jinnah Colony, Kutchi Para, Neti Jetty Bridge, ICI Chowrangi, Maripur Road and later culminated at Suparco Roundabout near Safoora Goth.

Large number of the PPP activists on motorbikes, rickshaws and other vehicles accompanied the rally and chanted slogan in favour of the party leadership and danced on the themes of party songs.

The rally that missed out the PPP leaders Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari who were in Karachi- was led by senior PPP leader Senator Sherry Rehman.

It is pertinent to mention here that the top political parties of the city including Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had carried out rallies in the city that were led by their top leaderships.

However, the PPP leader Manzoor Abbas was of the view that they had not carried out this rally in tussle of any political party instead it was planned way before the election activities began in the city.

“The rally was planned in preparations of the PPP Foundation Day on November 30, and the main gathering to would be held at Memon Goth Karachi and addressed by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” he said.

Addressing the party cadres, Sherry Rehman said that the rally was not for the election campaign instead it was for the celebrations of the foundation day of the PPP on November 30.

The PPP leader while criticising the audience in PTI public gathering in Lyari said that the Lyariities had given their decision in favour of the PPP by not attending this public gathering. “Lyari is a PPP stronghold and it would once again prove that the people here still have Bhuttoism in their hearts,” she said.

“Those who say that the PPP is only limited to Sindh are wrong as the party lives in the hearts of millions of people across the country. We’ll raise the party flag from Karachi to Khyber as the new generation is ready to stand behind Bilawal for bringing a revolution in the country.” She further said the PPP would also take out a rally on Monday (today) on its foundation day- which would be addressed by chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Meanwhile, PPP Senator Saeed Ghani expressed his gratitude to the people of Lyari for what he claimed rejecting Imran Khan’s invitation to attend a gathering of the Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf (PTI) at Kakri Ground in Lyari. On such a humiliating rejection from the people of Lyari who always proved to be diehard jiayalas of the PPP, Imran on returning to his base kept on changing his dresses and vehicles. Lastly, as usual, he asked his party men to bring people from other areas so as to make a show, which was an utter manifest of failure.

Senator Ghani while commenting on the threats to the PTI chairman said it was strange to hear if Imran Khan claimed he has threats from the groups he lived with. He also questioned about the assets of Imran Khan and asked him to clarify as what in the name of assets he had prior to entering the politics.

He said Imran had not owned any piece of land in Islamabad in the past but today he owns a palace on 350 kanals. Imran has to clarify about sources for owning such a huge and luxurious palace in country’s capital, said Senator Ghani. He said it was beyond senses as why Imran Khan is making appeals to the people of the country for donations for Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital as the PTI chairman himself is a billionaire.
