Islamabad - Lord Qurban Hussain, member of the British Parliament, and Amjad Bashir, member of the European Parliament, separately called on Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatimi at his office on Tuesday.

In the meeting Lord Qurban Hussain expressed deep sentiments of distress and condemnation on the Peshawar attack . Hailing from Kashmir itself, he appreciated Pakistan’s support to the Kashmiris in their struggle for the right of self-determination.

The SAPM thanked Lord Qurban Hussain for the call. He highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s bilateral relations with the UK and the place the UK occupied in Pakistan’s foreign policy. He especially mentioned the active role of the UK in supporting Pakistan’s quest to attain GSP Plus trade status from the European Union. At the end, the SAPM expressed his hope that by virtue of his Pakistani descent and the prestigious position he enjoyed, Hussain would continue to highlight the government’s initiatives to promote peace, stability and economic prosperity in the country and the region. Meanwhile Amjad Bashir, member of the European Parliament, also called on the SAPM. He is currently head of the European Parliament’s Committee on Human Rights.

Bashir strongly condemned the Peshawar attack on the innocent victims and appreciated the government’s efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Thanking Bashir, the SAPM highlighted the importance Pakistan attaches to its relations with the European Union, especially in terms of trade and investment. He especially mentioned the granting of GSP Plus status to Pakistan by the EU. The SAPM shared the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government of a prosperous and peaceful future for Pakistan and the region. He expressed his hope that Amjad Bashir, thanks to his connections in Pakistan and a better understanding of its society and culture, would continue to project Pakistan’s contribution and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, and the government’s initiatives to promote peace, stability and economic prosperity in the country and the region.
