Islamabad - Islamabad police have decided not only to constitute security and vigilance committees in various residential areas of the federal capital but also to divide every police station into beats with a purpose to combat crimes effectively.

The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting headed by the Inspector General of Islamabad Police Tahir Alam Khan. The meeting was also attended by AIG (Operations) Dr Sultan Azam Temuri, SSP Asmat Ullah Junejo, and all zonal SPs, SDPOs, SHOs of all police stations.

The SSP Islamabad said that policing system was being revamped in Islamabad to effectively curb crimes. Under the system, he said, security and vigilance committees have been constituted after dividing the areas of police stations into beats. He said that an officer of assistant sub-inspector rank had been appointed as beat officer who would ensure complete coordination with the members of those committees.

The IGP said such committees were very crucial for maintaining peace and notables of the society would be made members of the bodies and special cards would be issued to them. He said those youngsters wanted to join the security and vigilance committees would have to submit their bio-data in respective police stations. He said that women would also be given representation in the bodies. The IGP said that youth would be given maximum representation in those committees who would point out criminal and suspected elements. He said that members of those bodies would continuously remain in touch with beat officers.

The IGP said that the federal capital was divided into 87 beats where such committees were being established with the purpose to combat criminal or terror elements effectively. He said that population of Islamabad was increasing day by day and it was the mutual responsibility of police as well as citizens to remain vigilant.

Briefing the policemen, the IGP said that hotels, motels, restaurants, inns, markets, factories, and slum areas should be the focus areas and police beat officers should be very well acquainted about such locations falling in their respective jurisdictions. He said that survey should be conducted about those residents living in various areas along with committee members. The chair further said those disturbing peace of the city would not be spared and police along with community will make every possible effort for making the city more secure.
